Better Housing, by Design
Join us for a conversation on housing, aging and disability moderated by CUDA Founder and Steering Committee member, Dr Jane Bringolf.
Jane will chat with Mr Peter Wilcocks, aged care and disability consumer advocate, Associate Professor Ceridwen Owen, School of Architecture and Design, University of Tasmania, and Professor Libby Callaway, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Monash University about what good housing design actually looks like.
Together they will explore the barriers that limit choice and access to housing, discuss recent policy changes that impact housing design and talk about what policy and practice changes are needed to really drive meaningful improvement.
The conversation will also draw on insights from a new report published by the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI) Improving Housing Outcomes for People with Disability: Policy and Practice Initiatives - offering a first look at the research shaping the national conversation on accessible housing.
It’s a timely discussion given housing remains a significant challenge for universal design. Homes should be built for people at any age or ability, rather than requiring costly retrofits down the track. But that’s not how it often works in practice.
