HYDRA: Housing needs and aspirations of young people with disability in rural and regional Australia
Project Overview
HYDRA is a research project exploring the housing needs and aspirations of young people with disability living in rural and regional Australia.
Led by Dr Tess Bright from the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health, HYDRA brings together a multidisciplinary team with expertise in disability rights, housing policy, public health, qualitative research, and lived experience.
The project focuses on understanding what young people with disability want and need when it comes to housing in rural communities. Findings will help inform future policy, housing options, and support systems that better reflect their goals and experiences.
This project is funded by the Melbourne Disability Institute.
Interviews: Seeking participants!
The research team is currently seeking young people aged 18-34 years, who have a disability and live outside big cities, in rural and regional areas to take part in interviews about their future housing aspirations.
The interviews will focus on your current living situation, your goals for the future, and what may be helping or preventing you from getting there.
The interview will take place online and will last about one hour. Participants may bring a support person if they wish. Participation is voluntary.
The research will be helping to improve our understanding of where and how young people with disability in rural and regional areas want to live. This may lead to future changes in policy to support greater choice in living arrangements.
